Day 8: hiking a vineyard
With eight passengers in a 90s vintage jeep, we tackled the final leg to the Canada do Inferno site—a ravine shaped by heat and time. Our guide noted the linguistic twist: ‘canada’ means ‘ravine’ in Portuguese. The short walk on well-groomed trails led us to the site, where the adventure felt even more intense.

Day 7: very old carvings
Harvest season in wine country meant a drive derailed by construction and following grape-loaded trucks, but we still reached the Côa River to explore Paleolithic carvings in time. It’s good that a guide is required to view the carvings; otherwise, they would be hard to spot and harder to interpret.

Day 6: driving to Pinhão
After checking out of our Airbnb, we enjoyed a short, flavorful brunch at CA Downtown before heading east. The menu’s simplicity shone through with expertly crafted dishes, fueling us for the drive to Pinhão. Rain delayed our hike plans, but the warming weather turned the landscape into a perfect backdrop for wine country exploration.
