Day 8: hiking a vineyard

With eight passengers in a 90s vintage jeep, we tackled the final leg to the Canada do Inferno site—a ravine shaped by heat and time. Our guide noted the linguistic twist: ‘canada’ means ‘ravine’ in Portuguese. The short walk on well-groomed trails led us to the site, where the adventure felt even more intense.

Day 7: very old carvings

Harvest season in wine country meant a drive derailed by construction and following grape-loaded trucks, but we still reached the Côa River to explore Paleolithic carvings in time. It’s good that a guide is required to view the carvings; otherwise, they would be hard to spot and harder to interpret.

Day 6: driving to Pinhão

After checking out of our Airbnb, we enjoyed a short, flavorful brunch at CA Downtown before heading east. The menu’s simplicity shone through with expertly crafted dishes, fueling us for the drive to Pinhão. As it turns out, we have two port wine tastings scheduled today. We love it when plans and the weather align. Our day started with a 50-minute walk across…

Day 2: First half-day in Porto

Our day starts with groceries. We don’t really need food yet but there are essentials we don’t bring when flying. Sunscreen, shampoo, conditioner, some form of hydrating bodywash and sparkling water were placed on our groceries list and 30 minutes after first stepping into our the apartment, we’re stepping out to the grocery store. 📍Pingo…

Day 1: Travelling to Porto

We’ve been counting down the days to this trip for more than 100 days. Part of that long anticipation comes from a mix of work having been an unrelenting rollercoaster of stress since we came back from our last vacation and being ready to explore a country neither of us has ever visited. Either way,…
