As the trip is ending we’re summarizing our thoughts. Nothing long, just a couple of pointers and summary of our experience.
Island ranking
- Astypalaia
- Sifnos
- Milos
- Rhodes
- Corfu
- Kythnos (good food, hiking could be descent, need to read Greek however)
- Naxos
- Santorini (you could probably fit a bunch of islands between 7 and 8)
Best hikes
Naxos : Zas mountain for the quality of the hike and the views
Sifnos trail #6 as the best hiking trail
Milos walk to Dropped Pin beach as the best walkabout but not really repeatable.
Best cats
Astypalaia for their health and the TNR program
Sifnos cats were very healthy
Kythnos had very friendly very well fed cats, but not a lot of healthcare - high ratio of sick cats
Wine
White Greek wine is always good. Rose it’s hit and miss. Haven’t had any red
Food
Overall food is good here! Find people who are passions about what they eat and you will have a good meal. Eat what is local and in season. Stay away from the club sandwich. Indulge in the gyros pita.
Funny stuff
People figure out we’re Canadian because we speak both French and English together
Locals were confused by PL’s insistence on not interacting with them and some were even uncomfortable with that
