Day 9: Petra Piana to Onda

Trip
Corsica 2016
Location
Onda 🇫🇷
Date
August 28, 2016

Although we followed the official GR20 path, we actually took the "new" path, which essentially has us descend to a sheepfold and then climb back up to the next refuge. According to our trail companions, the change was made precisely to attract more people to the sheepfolds. The traditional trail, according to our travel companions, is now the alpine variant. In any case, the "new" trail was great. It was wide, under forest cover, in a superb forest and ran along a river. For the first time, Karine and I could walk side by side on the trail.

Tonight's refuge had a campsite where humans were in the enclosure, and the animals watched them from outside. Considering the number of goats, sheep, cows, horses, and donkeys wandering around, it's logical, and it gave us a space with no risk of camping in cow manure.

In addition to enclosure services, the refuge also offered sheep cheese tasting, a real all-inclusive. Since our departure, our hiking shoes have been getting noticed. Everyone is in boots, and we're in sneakers, so we're curiosities. We're also the only ones without blisters on our feet. However, today, a German couple commented that they find us courageous for taking on the trail like this. It's good for the ego that.
