Our day started in the same vein as yesterday: with a disappointing breakfast. Our short espresso showed up with more ”coffee” (and I’m using the term loosely here) than you should get in any espresso drink. I’ve seen smaller drip coffees. Eggs were unseasoned, potatoes were greasy, sausage was split in two length wise more to keep patrons safe than for any effect; it would be hard to undercook or drop two half sausage on a flat top after all. Breakfast lived up to our initial impression of the town. Over hyped and under performing.

Then we went hiking on Mount Revelstoke. The drive to the parking at the top and was in beautiful forest with great views. The 1km hike to the summit is nothing to write about but the summit affords really good views of the surroundings. Then comes the hike. A gorgeous 6km trail to the first lake. The trail is incredibly well maintained and there’s almost always a view. You keep hugging the terrain so there’s little elevation change. It’s a good thing too since you start at 1900 meter above sea level.

We had terrific weather to go with the hike. In town, it went above 30°C. On the mountain we got around 25°C. We started the hike at around 20°C and it only got warmer from there. It’s a huge difference from what we had on the Alberta side of the Rockies. Even at similar altitude we were hard pressed to get near 15°C.

We never made it to the lakes. We started the hike a little late so we had a cut off time. Karine’s calves did seize up a little which made the hike a little less pleasant for her during the first few km. It gave us a chance to take lots of pictures and enjoy the beautiful weather. I’ve managed a 3.5km trail run that felt great. Overall, even without the lakes, it turned out to be a beautiful hike and day.

We concluded our day at a restaurant in Revelstoke. Contrary to our experience yesterday where the best thing I can say about the meal is that it was adequate, today’s meal had the hallmarks of an attentive cook. Each dish was well executed with attention to both flavour and texture. It ended our stay on a positive note.
