Today we go around the cirque (rather than descending into the bottom and climbing back up the other side). What's surprising is that even though we're at an altitude, there are always many animals and, especially, their excrement. It's fascinating to see cows with tags at 1800m, and it's also astonishing to see sheepfolds without road access in the middle of nowhere. How does all this work?

So much livestock causes just as much excrement on the trail. We're pleased that our photos don't come with an olfactory track. The fact that we're crossing more and more life is undoubtedly due in part to the lakes we're crossing. We're finally seeing reasonably sized altitude lakes. OK, a pedal boat would be useless for crossing it; it would be faster to walk around, but it's already better than a hole smaller than an above-ground pool.

It's always tough to find a protein source for lunch that isn't sausage. We've given up on breakfast; the French (the Corsicans pardon) eat bread and jam for breakfast, period.
