Day 29: Last hop to Athens

Today we abandoned our Paphos morning tradition and went for specialty coffee instead. We had to get up early to go to the Larnaca airport. Pizza not being served before 11:00 helped our choice along. 📍Localito won out and was barely a 5-minute drive out of our way. Their coffee game was on point and they had a cinnamon bun to boot.

The drive to the airport was easy and had zero traffic. Dropping the car off at Avis was a quick process and painless—not driving through steep rocky roads with potholes worthy of a war zone helps bring a car in good condition. We went through customs and to the Aegean Lounge. The description of the lounge location was perplexing to us: “conveniently located on the departures level of Larnaka International Airport between gates 48 and 29”. My primary school maths are far behind me but I would have expected 29 to come before 48 and to have 19 other gates between the two. Turns out airport maths work differently and 29 is next to 48…. For reasons I guess.

The flight was uneventful and once through customs at Athens we took the metro to the closest station to our hotel. We dropped our bags and went for a quick stop at 📍72H Artisanal Bakery for some assorted pastries and some cinnamon buns before retreating back to our room’s balcony to enjoy our treats and the view—we did splurge for a patio with a view for our last night.

Our last dinner of the trip was planned well before we even arrived in Greece the first time. We went to 📍Venezé. One of the fancier places we’ve done this trip. Our carry-on kit doesn’t include much single use items and the definition of a single use item is fancy clothing. Karine even observed the maître d doing a double take. Not needing their approval we didn’t comment nor felt out of place. We were seated and had a wonderful meal that was truly excellent.
