Our day started with the same coffee as yesterday but a new Roman style pizza (📍Forno Roscioli) place that came highly recommended. Sadly a LOT of people had the same recommendation which created a feral crowd of hungry people trying to get cue and failing at it badly. Karine wrestled us some good pizza but the Forno still wins.

The original plan was to go for a hike. A very nice loop on a small hill with views on Rome. It’s a beautiful sunny day and it’s warm! (25°C) We needed to grab a bus to the start of the trail. Of course, to make things easy on us, the bus drivers were on a strike action and none of the buses were guaranteed to run from 8:30 to 17:30 and between 20:30 and 2:00 the next morning. We waited for the bus for a little more than half an hour but to no avail. We decided to move on to plan B. What’s another change of plan at this point?
We made our way, on foot, to the 📍gardens of the Villa Borghese. Another marked point on our map of which we have no memory. We were expecting a villa with a garden behind. While we saw a large park that, while pleasant, is nothing to write home about (well… other than this I guess). We searched in vain for what we read described as beautiful garden. In the end we gave up and walked to our next stop in our plan B: pink grapefruit gelato at 📍Giolitti one of our favourite spots.

The gelato was just as we remembered: delicious. The location was still the same old school and very popular gelateria. It’s a quick stop if you know how to negotiate the to go counter by paying for your gelato first and then find someone to take your recipe and fill the cups.

Tomorrow we’re starting to make our way home. The first step will be a flight to Zurich and a good dinner with the series of flights to get us back home the next day. So, it being our last fully day of vacation without travel, we decided to past the time before our last dinner in Rome by having an extended aperitivo. It bagan with a rooftop terrace followed by a spot on a couch on a plaza. We then concluded the day with diner at 📍53 untitled, a small bistro with a few tables run by two enthusiastic women serving a very contemporary approach to Roman cuisine. It offered a casual ambience and good cuisine. We were able to compare their version of oxtail stew and fried artichoke with the Old School place from yesterday: we prefer the modern version. We made our way through the menu and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We left ready to start our journey back home.
