Trip
New Zealand 2018
Location
Aoraki 🇳🇿
Date
January 18, 2018

We left Oamaru in the early morning dust to make our way to the second of three UNESCO sites in New Zealand, Aoraki (also known as Mount Cook). Our first site was the Milford Sound (who we now know is not a sound). The third is the Tongariro National Park, but as mentioned previously, rain prevented us from visiting it. Still, two out of three ain’t bad.
We arrived a little after noon and went for a quick hike near the Tasman Glacier, a 27km-long glacier that’s melting by almost a km a year. It offered us impressive views of the glacier lake, some icebergs, and the resulting river.

The scale of the mountains around is hard to put into words. It’s another one you had to be there for.
