It is our first log entry, even if it‘s our second day in New Zealand. The first day of travel started with breakfast on a plane at 4:00 so we did not focus so much on writing the chronicle as surviving the day.

The food in Auckland has been amazing since our arrival. We’ve eaten at 5 different restaurants and had awesome food each time. We found that bacon and avocado is a staple of breakfast food and we much appreciate the New Zealanders for that. Also, most restaurants default to sparkling water instead of regular tap water (well they really just add bubbles to tap water) and we like it. Today we found a Japanese sushi place with chu-toro tuna (fatty tuna). Something we cannot get in Quebec and really brings the tuna flavour alive. Karine spent the entire day dreaming of tuna.

Our focus for day 2 was walking around Auckland. It gave us a chance to appreciate the unique side of each neighbourhood. We started our journey by going to the Wintergarden, which is really two green houses at the top of a hill. It’s like a mini botanical garden but didn't require us to do 1:30 of public transportation or a 45 minutes drive to meet flowers (contrary to the Auckland botanical garden). From the garden we went to Mount Eden as it offers gorgeous views of the city. Also, being of volcanic origins it is in itself an interesting place to visit.

All in all, a great beginning to our vacation.
