We’re in Te Anau today. It’s the closest “city” (and I’m using the term broadly) near Milford Sound. It’s where you eat and sleep before and/or after driving the two hours to see how gorgeous New Zealand can be. Since there’s basically nothing to see here; the quintessential town where you need to stop but don’t want to stay.
The city promised us a bird sanctuary and enchanting walks along the lake. The bird sanctuary is a couple of cages in a park with very few birds. The walk along the lake is, mostly, between trees with little view on the lake. We still managed a couple of good pictures but that’s about it. At least the weather is wonderful, full of sun and very warm (26°C).
Our hotel is on the edge of town. It’s a rundown hotel/motel with threadbare carpets. Likely built in or around the 1980 and hasn’t since the shadow of a hammer since its opening. All in all, our journey got us to the small town near one of the highlights of the country. We can’t wait for tomorrow.
